High School Team Breaks All Time 3pt Attempt Record Going 8-103 From Three Point Land In 109-25 Loss
Thehawkeye – While the second-ranked (Class 1A) Danville High School boys basketball team capped off its undefeated regular season in dominant fashion, it was West Burlington which may have set a national record in Saturday’s 109-25 SEI Superconference South Division game in West Burlington. West Burlington head coach Vern Reed said the Falcons attempted more than 100 3-pointers in the contest, which pending National Federation of State High School Associations verification, would be a new national mark. The Falcons only made eight of those attempts. “We were right around 103, but I have to watch the tape,” Reed said.
The current national record is held by Juniata Valley (Pa.), which had 94 3-point attempts against Claysburg (Pa.) on Jan. 30, 1997. The Falcons were led by Skylar Schmeiser, who drained four 3-point attempts. “We were hoping that coming in averaging 24 or so percent (on 3-pointers), we could make 24 or 25. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but all you can do is try. The kids were excited and got after it, and my hat’s off to them.” “We have a lot of respect for (Danville coach Ken Laffoon),” Reed said. “After time I think he realized what was going on, and he was very classy about the situation. “It’s a neat thing for the kids and hopefully its something they can remember.”
Is this what we are teaching our kids these days: if you know you're going to lose to a team, than its just better to humiliate yourselfs in record fashion while losing.
I mean how does coach bring this strategy up at practice. "You guys suck pretty bad, and we are definitely going to lose. So lets just set a new record for sucking this game."
And the crazier part is that the coach thinks his team accomplished something good. It almost sounds like he is bragging in this article. Talking about how well the other coach took it. Took what, dildo? You had your team acting like a bunch of scared pussies, instead of trying to win the game.
