Fantasy Focus- Draft Day Bargains- Hitters

1- Jayson Werth
It seems like some fnatasy experts are equating the fact that the Nationals gave Werth a bad baseball deal (7 years, 120 million) to him being a bad baseball player. Mockdraftcentrals average draft position, or ADP, has Werth at 55 overall, some 20 spots behind likes of Nelson Cruz, J Upton, and Ichiro. But he hit .296  last year with 27hr and 85rbi along with 13 steals. Now, the power numbers did dip from '09 but he has averaged 29hrs over the last three seasons. He also increased his doubles from 26 to 46 last year while cutting down his strikouts. Werth isnt in the top 8 fantasy outfielders but those who draft him in the 5th/6th round is going to be very happy in 2011

2- Alex Rodriquez
I know this may sound funny having a-rod in an article about underated baseball players, but this year its true. His ADP is currently 18, which puts him in the end of round 2. Meanwhile Longoria and David Wright are going in the middle of round 1. Now its certain the days of 55hrs and 140 rbis are gone, but he will still be a perennial AL MVP candidate for the next 2-3 years. And with the scarcity at 3b this year, I would think twice about drafting guys like Texiera and Howard ahead of Arod. Expect a line of .280 32/105/10sb

3- Delmon Young
Im the guy that drafted Delmon in 2007, 2008, 2009 hoping for that breakout season, then last off season I wrote him off, well I guess I learned my lesson on writing off 24-year-old former #1 picks. His 2010 was more than anyone could have expected. He hit .298 with 21hr and 112rbi. Better yet he only struck out 81 times in 613 abs. And yet despite these numbers his ADP is 109, behind the streaky Alfonso Soriano and the often injured Grady Sizemore. His talent has never been denied and being traded to Minnesota, where you either give your best or you dont play, may have saved his young career. And I have to believe the best is yet to come with this youngster.

4- Starlin Castro-
Im sure I have a little bias putting Castro on this list but, his play in the second half last year went seemingly unnoticed. He was second in the major leagues in total hitts from July 1st on. He hit .300 in his first year and is only 21 years old this year. He didn't show the same speed he did in the minors but most are predicting him to double his production in that category from  last years 10  total stolen bases. With an ADP of 161, he is sure to be a steal in rounds 13-16. Expect .308 with 10hr/65rbi/20 sbs
