    I have one Xserve G5 in use here to run PresStore and I successfully upgraded the three drive modules to 2 TB with no issues.

    The only thing to remember is simply that the Xserve is not SATA 2 and the controller seems to ignore the drives that are SATA 2.

    Even weirder is the fact that some sleds seems to switchs the drives automatically to SATA-1 while others don't.

    So, if like me, If you end up with drives that are not visible, follow the manufacturer's instructions to set them to SATA-1 Mode. It's either a jumper or you have to plug the drive in a PC and use a boot CD.

    I used Hitachi Deskstar and they are great. Expensive, but great.

    You can now use the [Resolved] prefix in most forums to flag your own threads when the issue raised by the thread has been resolved, the question has been answered, the problem has been solved, or the equivalent. It's especially useful in the Mac Basics and Help forum.

    The [Resolved] prefix does not mean that the thread is closed or that others shouldn't post, just that you don't consider the thread to be waiting for resolution of the issue, question, or problem. You can also think of it as a thank-you flag when you've gotten the help you needed. It doesn't make sense to use [Resolved] for certain types of threads, such as open-ended discussions and current events, so use it only where it's suitable.

    To change the prefix of a thread that you started:

    Don't see why Apple would make any hardware changes that would put the breaks on Jailbreaking. Unlocking is a totally different animal so we'll have to see....
    There could be legitimate reasons to stop a jailbreak. They are an open security hole that allows access to the device. By closing the jailbreak they are restricting one way to access secure data stored on the device.
    I like jailbreaks, but I don't like the idea that somebody can plug a password protected phone into a computer and easily download all text messages and contacts from it.

    and way into high posting, one can be a 601 at 5,000 posts

    i don't know what the next level will be or at how many posts

    it could be the 602, which was not a widely used processor, or the more common 603...but then i wonder if the 603e will be another level or if arn decides the person is a 604...of course, there was the 604e after that

    and after the 6xx levels, there is the G3, G4, and G5 and it's a mystery where those sit at

    and is there a G6??

    After getting the beta to work after several attempts, I'm getting around 650 PPD on my first unit on a 2.0GHZ MBP Core Duo. I would love to install this on my friends Mac Pro!

    Is there a way to limit the CPU usage with the SMP beta, I want to find some balance of CPU usage that allows me to run the fans at around 2500-3000 RPM, they are at 4000 now at full capacity, but I don't want my fans to break AGAIN (I'm 1 for 3 on apple laptops that have fans work for more than a year without making noises that sound like they came from hell)

    I have already tried moving files in and out of FileVault and creating empty disk images and deleting them but nothing has brought the optimization dialog back when I log out.
    I do have a backup of my data (it's about two weeks old). It's on an external harddrive in Iceland (I'm on vacation in Germany now) and just a mirror of the disk before I turned FileVault on. I do not want to lose all the changes I made during the last two weeks, though - and I also can't clear the external harddrive for a new backup, since I had to delete many huge files on the Powerbook in order to turn FileVault on in the first place.

    I also had to move my entire iTunes folder to my iPod - leaving me all without music (I deleted it on my Mac and cleaned my iPod before I manually copied the Music folder). I copied a few songs back from my iPod to my PB, though.

    I hate FileVault.

    You can speculate about the superdrive, but don't even think the longshoremen are being even remotely reasonable! My cousin in NY is one and I agree with him when he says they are the living example of a way-too powerful union out of control. They push and bully till they get what they want. He makes $190,000 to operate a crane. That is INSANE. That same job in any other construction venue earns nowhere near as much AND there is usually very little job securtiy. The management agreed to every term of the settlement EXCEPT the singular outrageous demand that their jobs be guaranteed to never become obsolete for technology reasons. That is the craziest pie-in-the-sky demand I'v ever heard! What does that even mean?! It boils down to all these current employees having the overweening arrogance to try to ensure these nepotistic jobs for their children. They are the blue collar equivalent of major league baseball players. They're greedy and shameless instead of grateful for essentially winning the lottery, and that mentatlity will create their own downfall.

    Plus they're holding up Apple's progress and I NEED A NEW SYSTEM!

    1 to 1 is only offered at Apple stores or online. I've worked for Apple for years so I would know.

    And yes, you can technically purchase it within 14 days, but when you go in the staff will do their best to get you to get it the same day.

    -d

    Oh I totally agree - the specialists will do anything to get you to buy 1to1 with the macs...helps with their metrics.

    Here's an idea..go to the store and find a random customer buying a mac - give him/her 100$ to buy a 1to1 for you. Each customer can buy up to 5 1to1s, so you should be good.

    Otherwise, make something up and I'm sure the manager will allow it because even standalone 1to1s help the store's overall metrics.

    1) I love my MS BT mouse and the only lag I've ever noticed is when you haven't used the mouse for a few mins. when it takes maybe half a sec. to 'wake', no problem. I'd very much recommend mapping the buttons to Expose/dasboard, you'll never go back to either Windows or a single mouse button.
    2) BUy RAM elsewhere and fit it yourself, it's a doddle.
    3) I'd say the iCurve would be fine and recommend an external keyboard, wired or BT.

    Basically you are freeing memory you did not malloc/calloc.

    Actually there is a malloc, it's embedded in the memcpy.

    void *pointerGivenByInstanceFunction = memcpy(malloc(byteSizeOfElement),storage+i*byteSizeOfElement,byteSizeOfElement);

    EDIT: Sorry ignore that. It's the "read out values bis" loop that's the problem.

    Yes it's as robbieduncan says. In your one-line version, you're losing the pointer the copy of the double on the heap. Then later you try to pass the address of the copy on the stack to free, which rightly causes a crash.

    Basically you can't do this in one line. You could, though, cast directly to a double pointer and still free it, like so:

    double *pointerGivenByInstanceFunction = (double *)memcpy(malloc(byteSizeOfElement),storage+i*byteSizeOfElement,byteSizeOfElement);
    double returnElement = *pointerGivenByInstanceFunction;
    NSLog(@"%g",returnElement);
    free(pointerGivenByInstanceFunction);

    A simple solution to running a console app in the background would be to use GNU screen.

    Install darwinports (make sure you update .profile to include $PATH:/opt/local/bin and stuff like that) and simply do `sudo port install screen', then

    screen command-line-app

    and simply close the window. if you want to check on it later, simply type in `screen -r'.

    Ctrl-C while in the session to kill it. Useful for other things like irssi, compiling things in the background that will take a while, etc.

    I only had a few minutes this morning to look at this but I believe the main problem is your not calling the "mail" command. You have this line but it's not doing anything as it's just a variable...

    $success = mail($webMaster, $emailSubject, $body, $headers);

    If you just use this it should work...

    mail($webMaster, $emailSubject, $body, $headers);

    You may have other things to work out but this should send the email massage and you should be able to retrieve it at info@avenue19ni.com.

    Just saying, this advice is incorrect. The first version was simply capturing the return value from the function. The second is discarding the return value. Both are calling the function.

    I don't know offhand of any sources like you're asking for.

    Have you read the UIPickerView class reference? There are several sample code projects listed there.

    Your questions seem to be of two kinds: How do I make the pickerview do X? and what's a good way to implement the data model for a picker view? The first questions should be answered by the class reference. The picker view asks its datasource and delegate for information.

    The data model is different and depends on what you want to display. Having an array for each component is an obvious way to implement this. If it's possible to calculate the value of a row you might not need a data model for it at all. This might be the case for a simple picker that showed numbers from, say, 0 to 99.

    Britain's richest street: The place by the palace, where the average house price is £19.5m

    By ARTHUR MARTIN and JAMES MCMEEKIN

    The figure is 93 times the national average house price of £205,985. Even a single square foot of land in the street would cost you £1,193.

    They are beyond the reach of mere mortals. In fact, the homes in Kensington Palace Gardens would be too pricey even for many celebrities, bankers and lottery winners.

    A string of eye-watering property deals has helped to turn it into Britain’s most expensive street.

    The average price of a mansion in the affluent road in Kensington, West London, is an astonishing £19.2million, according to a study by property company Zoopla.

    Britain’s richest man Lakshmi Mittal, a steel magnate worth £23.8billion, bought one of the houses for £57million from the Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone in 2004, and renamed it Taj Mittal.

    Since then he has bought another home on an adjoining street for a record £117million from hedge fund tycoon Noam Gottesman.

    Pricey: The Boltons in Kensington is among the most expensive streets it the UK. Just a single square foot of land in the London borough now costs £1,193

    Residents of Kensington Palace Gardens also include Jon Hunt, who founded Foxtons estate agency which he sold for £390million in 2007.

    An extraordinary subterranean playground is being built which will house a tennis court, health centre and a private motor museum for his six vintage Ferraris.

    Keeping up with the Joneses: Nigella Lawson and Madonna are just two famous faces who call the borough of Kensington home

    The property tycoon is thought to have rejected an offer of £200million for his eight-bedroom home from Mr Mittal’s son Aditya in 2008.

    One of his even wealthier neighbours, Russian oligarch Leonid Blavatnik, is also building a massive underground extension for a swimming pool, gym and private cinema.

    Mr Blavatnik, who has made at least £4.7billion in the oil business, outbid Mr Mittal and Roman Abramovich in 2004 with an offer of £41million for the 15-bedroom property.

    The street’s allure is helped by Kensington Palace, set back from the road on the eastern side. The former home of Princess Diana is still the residence of several minor royals.

    Both ends of the street are manned by armed Diplomatic Protection Group officers because it houses several embassies, including those of Israel and Russia.

    As prices in the street soared in the past decade the makers of Monopoly chose it as the top square on the board ahead of Mayfair.

    The second most expensive street is The Boltons, Kensington, where the average house is £13.3million, with Frognal Way, Camden, third at £10.6million. In fact the top ten expensive streets are all in London.

    Virginia Water in Surrey - home to Wentworth Golf Club - is the seventh most expensive postal district in the country, with an average house price of £937,419.

    The survey found 5,922 streets nationwide where the average home is more than £1million. Of these, 2,290 are in London, followed by 89 in Guildford and 78 in Cobham, both in Surrey.

    Nick Leeming, from Zoopla.co.uk, said: 'Our study has found an enormous gulf between prices at the lowest and highest ends of the property market.

    'A home in Britain's most exclusive street is beyond the wildest dreams of all but an extremely wealthy elite.

    'At a whopping £19.2million, even National Lottery winners would now struggle to afford a house on Billionaire's Row.

    'Those who aspire to live in a wealthy area, surrounded by celebrities, will also need a reality check.

    Fashionable: Commuter hotspot Guildford, in Surrey, boasts 89 'million pound streets' - the second highest in the country

    Footballers' wives territory: Cobham has the third highest number of 'million pound streets' in the country

    'With a single square foot of land in Kensington costing £1,193, it is well out of the price range of your typical British homeowner.

    'People have always been obsessed with the value of their home as well as those of neighbours, friends and family.

    'Our rich list will give those who live on streets near the top of the list some serious bragging rights.'

    Residents of Kensington Palace Gardens also include Jon Hunt, who founded Foxtons estate agency which he sold for £390million in 2007.

    An extraordinary subterranean playground is being built which will house a tennis court, health centre and a private motor museum for his six vintage Ferraris.

    'People have always been obsessed with the value of their home as well as those of neighbours, friends and family.
