In a free and prosperous market, business exists and is done solely because it is profitable. When it ceases being profitable, it must be stopped. To keep pouring 100 units of money into something for the sake of getting 10 units of money out via payroll can only end in one thing....failure. (I'm using 'units of money' as a general example)
And that is fine, but from a practical standpoint, as I said, you must figure out how to deal with localized economic distress caused by cuts in the military. You also have to deal with the fact that the military controls access to some really impressive weaponry. Take these two things together, the prospect of sudden poverty and ghost towns and the prospect of a bunch of rather testosterone-amped cowboys having their guns taken away, to me that looks like a recipe for major disaster and probably the reason the Pentagon's budget is so difficult to rein in.
I certainly have no problem with the idea of wasting a whole lot less money on "defense". I just think the realities of such cuts need to be looked at from the big-picture perspective.

I too noticed a shorter battery life with 4.3, so hopefully this fixes things.

Apple growing fast on a dying market. Great.
They should better focus on releasing the iPhone 5 in June and not pospone it until fall....

A little more from the La Monde Diplomatique article (http://mondediplo.com/2008/02/05military) ...
Higher spending, fewer jobs
On 1 May the Center for Economic and Policy Research of Washington, DC, released a study prepared by the economic and political forecasting company Global Insight on the long-term economic impact of increased military spending. Guided by economist Dean Baker, this research showed that, after an initial demand stimulus, by about the sixth year the effect of increased military spending turns negative. The US economy has had to cope with growing defence spending for more than 60 years. Baker found that, after 10 years of higher defence spending, there would be 464,000 fewer jobs than in a scenario that involved lower defence spending.
Baker concluded: “It is often believed that wars and military spending increases are good for the economy. In fact, most economic models show that military spending diverts resources from productive uses, such as consumption and investment, and ultimately slows economic growth and reduces employment”.

I'm not very impressed. Rather disappointing news, isn't it ?
1) Voice control: I barely use it on my 3GS... and never see anyone using it. It's already been implemented for ages in every cellphones (remembering old Siemens GSM of 1999 already had it...) and nobody has been using it. Even more gimmicky than 3D imho... When in public transportation, you are trying to be as discreet as possible, not to shout into your phone/earphones mic. maybe for in-car purposes would voice control be a nice addition but most modern cars already offer similar, maybe superior capabilities (thinking about the Renault Carminat universal bluetooth connectivity kit which is great).
2) LTE: does it exist anywhere outside the US ? seems a tad early to me - and seeing how shy Apple was with 3G, I think we'd better wait a year or two.
What I'd rather like in my future iPhone is:
1) a built-in pico projector (making it the ultimate corporate phone in certain situations... plus a fantastic portable multimedia platform)
2)localized social awareness: discover what music people around you are listening to/what sites they're surfing on, etc (opt-in), would be a nice leap in the social network area (where Apple is a bit stagnating)
LTE will not revolutionize how people use their phones, nor will voice control - I don't see myself talking to my phone, it cannot be quicker than typing & swiping... whereas pico-projection, localized social awareness (orh whatever they may call it)... yummy...
anyway, that was just my 2 cents...

On the last page of Part 12 I posted a setup that is located in my home office (mainly used by my wife). Different room.
I decided to update my own office (kind of) with a brand spanking new iMac which is replacing my late 2009 Macbook Pro.
Old Specs Macbook Pro 17":
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
500GB + 80GB SSD ( took it out before selling)
Nvidia 9400M + 9600M
New Specs iMac:
2.93Ghz i7
8GB RAM
1TB Hard Drive + (still want my 80GB SSD inside this baby, but difficult to do so!)
ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB
So far, so good.
The speakers are also still there, but these are not shown in the picture.
This is an old/new comparison.
Mind the quality, but my iPhone 4 broke (will be replaced) on me so I used an old iPhone first generation.
I kept the iPad 64Gb Wifi.
Feedback is always welcome. :D
Just curious.. why would you put the iMac inside the window and block it entirely? Seems a bit odd

Skunk, all that you have presented above is one interpretation based on things we know about the history of the Canaanite people. This proposition posits that the history the Bible describes is not factually based, but a reinterpretation.
As I said before, I agree that much of the Canaanite people practiced polytheism. However, I believe, as scripture details, that God established a covenant with Abraham and from this covenant the Jewish nation was born. This action precipitated a change from polytheism to monotheism. I don't believe the commonalities that you point to indicate revisionist history. Many religions and mythologies share common concepts, common language, common historical figures, etc. Take Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as an example. They each have their own concepts of historical figures like Abraham and Jesus.
I understand that you think your view of the evidence is the correct view and I respect your right to have that opinion. However, the whole of both the Jewish and the Christian faith would disagree.

I hope they brighten the interface a bit. I find it too dark. Also i hope some of the buttons become drop down buttons. It looks way more cluttered then FCP7.
all the improvements i have seen are major approvements. Even though this is an early demo. bravo, apple.
edit: or give us the advanced and regular version UI ;) all buttons that have shortcuts i dont see need for in the UI for an everyday user like me.

I think that is about right. Macs are still a premium and premium priced product. There is a limited market that can afford premium priced products. You can get a mini-tower system from HP/Dell/Acer for $700 and it costs > $2000 to get a similar performing system from Apple (even if the Apple does come with more "features"). Many people can't afford or justify the price difference.
Please. A Macbook costs about $1,000. There will be people who deliberately go for something cheaper, but the majority of people can _afford_ it. The "similarly performing system" to the mini tower is the iMac for $1199. And people who are poor but clever know that in the long term, quality is cheaper - usually the best thing to buy is the cheapest of the best, which would be for example the MacBook. It will still be running fine when you bought the second replacement for a cheaper laptop.
Which reminds me that when people look at these sales numbers, they look at unit sales. They don't look at revenue. But how are you going to compare, if customer A buys one MacBook and uses it for five years, while customer B buys a cheap laptop every two years? Makes me wonder what is the percentage of Macs in actual use.
And all the Apple haters claim the "iToys" are responsible for the immense growth. Nah, people just want a PC that works and its called a Mac!
iPod, iPhone and iPad _are_ brilliant advertising for the Mac, so they surely help selling Macs by making people look at them and considering them. Once people look at them, they are quite good at selling themselves. Obviously the haters always claim that people buying either Macs or iDevices are just gullible idiots and Apple's success is due to marketing alone. How stupid do they think people are?
Sarcasm? Hard to tell. It's more polite to use some indication (smiley, text note) since there are many non-native English participants on this forum.
Much more important and polite is to write in clear and error-free English. For example, "could of" instead of "could have" doesn't make any sense whatsoever to someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with the English language. To a native English reader, "there" and "they're" is basically the same word (most recognise if the wrong one is used but it doesn't stop them understanding); to a non-native reader, they are totally, completely different and using the wrong one turns a simple sentence into a puzzle.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread (the MBP discussions are most of what I'm caught up in now  ), but I noticed an interesting article on MacNN that talked about this as well. To paraphrase, it said that when the iTunes TV shows were first made available, Walmart sent back DVDs of Lost, Desperate Housewives, etc., refusing to sell them. Looking on Walmart's site now, though, both Seasons 1 and 2 of Lost are available, both online and in stores (just as an example).
Threatening not to sell movies has a limited impact. I think Walmart is responsible for some 40% of DVD sales (not positive on that number), but if people can't buy DVDs at Walmart, they don't think: "Well shoot, I guess I just won't get this movie." They'll either complain or go somewhere else. This may be tough in communities where Walmart is the only major shopping center, but Walmart can't really blame movie studios when Walmart is the one refusing to sell the product.
I agree with other peoples' posts when they say that Apple's primary movie market will not really affect Walmart's sales (mostly wealthier middle class types who can afford to dump $300 on a streaming media device). I refuse to shop at Walmart for a variety of reasons myself; this just adds to the list.

iLounge has a "First Look" article with photos of all models and accessories. They say that the new nanos have the Search and Smart Scroll feature of the new 5G iPod. Hopefully we with the plastic nanos won't miss out on that. I'm expecting an iPod Updater soon.
Sadly I don't think the 1G nanos will get them. Remember when the video and nano came out, with the stopclock, security lock, etc? The previous iPods didn't get an update :(.

As I've stated before, No Way does Apple realease the updated MBPs before the iPad is released!
Yes, I know that they are two different categories, but the MBPs would definitely steal a lot of the iPad's thunder.
I, too, would love to have the MBPs. Unfortunately, we are all just going to have to wait a while longer...
Interesting.... and what is your prediction for International (Int) since we won't get the iPad before the end of April ? I also believed that once, but with different date for the iPad release (US vs Int) and knowing that about 50% of the sales are Int, I'm not sure about that anymore. End of April will be a shame for Apple... Friends around me already have there i7 laptop... but of course, they had to pay the ultimate price... being on Windows

RCR Wireless (http://unplugged.rcrwireless.com/index.php/20110503/devices/8804/hot-rumor-apple-ipad-3-to-be-fully-3d/) claims to have multiple sources telling it that Apple is planing on incorporating 3D technology ino the next generation iPad. “The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert,” one Hollywood insider close to the big movie studios told RCR, adding that the screen would be the real magic. She went on to say that the big film studios were currently running around like blue arsed flies trying to gear up to release plenty of 3D content in time for Apple’s next launch.Besides this "Hollywood insider", they also cite sources from iPad manufacturer Foxconn about the 3D plans.
We're not sure about the reliability of these sources, but Apple has clearly been exploring 3D technology over the years as evidenced by numerous (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/12/11/apple-exploring-3d-desktop-and-application-interfaces/) patent (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/03/20/apple-researching-3d-stereoscopic-displays/) applications (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/12/17/apple-working-on-3d-hyper-reality-displays/). Not all this research has been in the typical 3D technology found in recent movies and television sets. Some of the research has been in pseudo-3D technologies that involve head tracking that was effectively demoed (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/11/head-tracking-allows-glasses-free-3d-on-ipad/) in a recent iPad app. 3D, of course, has also been a big recent trend with the release of many 3D TVs, 3D movies, and Nintendo's 3DS handheld gaming console.
Also interesting is that this isn't the first time this has been suggested. Earlier this year, Japanese blog Macotakara (http://www.macotakara.jp/blog/index.php?ID=11085) cited their own sources who said that Apple's LCD supplier was beginning to manufacture small glasses-free 3D LCD panels for the iPod Touch, though they suggested it might involve user head-tracking to accomplish the effect..

Heh, what Adobe should do, for video purposes, is try and make something that converts the flash file the user views into a video file when viewed by the user on the iphone. I don't know much about flash but I think it could work. As I think there is always a video file somewhere near that flash file.
But then I don't know. This is based off of what little I know.
Flash video uses a .flv file, which is a shell that houses the avi/mpg/mov/etc. But it's rendered away when it's converted to flv, so technically it no longer exists. You can't really extract it...well you can but that would take more processing power than just playing the flash file.

Can you add movies to your library that are already on your HD?
I choose file > add to library and selected a bunch of AVI files and it just did nothing.
I was just able to do that. I grabbed an old Quicktime video from an apple keynote done in 1998.
I NOW understand what that dialog box is for that I posted earlier. You can now encode any video iTunes will accept, for your ipod, within iTunes.
You no longer need Quicktime Pro, iMovie, or 3rd party applications to do so!
Rock on!!!

1. My statement made perfect sense. Apple builds excellent hardware that competes very well with other expensive hardware, the build quality is better than what anyone else produces, and Apple's Macintosh computers often have unique design that you cannot find elsewhere. Anybody who needs to run Windows and is willing to pay for top quality hardware is well advised to consider buying a Macintosh.
2. You are in LOVE with an ASUS board? I'm in love with my wife. If my MacBook was stolen or damaged I wouldn't shed one tear; I would just wait for the insurance money and buy a new one. You seem to have a strange irrational emotional attachment here.
Apple does not have the best have a build quality better then everyone else. They have some very good computers, but their are companies who build much better computers you have no evidence to back up your statement. Macs use the same hardware as everyone else.

They make all of Nikons sensors, even the high end D3S and D3X dSLRs ones. They also made (or make?) Canon point and shoot sensors; at least as of a few years ago. Sony was one of the first with backlit CMOS as well.
Oh, and I think Pentax, if you want to consider them a camera compay, uses Sony sensors.
The high-end Nikon sensors are not Sony's.
"While it's widely known that Nikon uses sensors principally designed by Sony in many of its digital SLRs, the D3/D700 sensor is an original Nikon design that is manufactured not by Nikon but by an unspecified sensor fabricator. Prior to the D3, the only other digital SLR models to also feature a sensor created by Nikon were the D2H and D2Hs, and as with those models, Nikon isn't revealing their manufacturing partner for the new sensor. It has a pixel pitch of 8.45m and utilizes 12-channel readout."
