MY PREDICTION: No matter how great the products Apple release on tuesday, that very day you will all be disappointed and moaning how it didn't meet expectations.

Let's talk about this, shall we?
We've already established earlier in the thread the following:
1) Crime and having low socio-economic status are correlated.
2) Blacks are more likely, for whatever reasons, to have low SES.
3) Ergo, blacks are more prone to turn to crime.
Point #2 is the point of contention. It's not a question of if point 2 is true, but rather one of why it is so. I submit the following premise:
1) In our society, an individual's income is correlated with his intelligence. This is easily seen in that college graduates earn more money than non-graduates, who in turn earn more than those who drop out of high school.
2) An individual's intelligence is correlated with his parents' intelligence due to heredity factors. As various and numerous studies have shown, blacks typically underperform whites by roughly one standard deviation. This leads us to the following:
3) The various (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060427161424.htm) genes (http://www.physorg.com/news91799494.html) that influence higher intelligence occur less frequently in the African-descended gene pool than in the European-descended gene pool.
So, how do we test this hypothesis while controlling for environment? Lucky for us, we don't have to, as it's already been done, as the Minnesota Transracial Adoption Study (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Transracial_Adoption_Study). If you scroll down to the Results section, you will see the white children scoring at the top, black children in the bottom by about 1SD, and mixed children in the middle. As the study controlled for environment (the adopting families were all of the upper-middle class), it is reasonable to conclude that the above premise has merit, and that genes do have a degree of influence on intelligence.
Accepting that humanity is biologically diverse is simply the acknowledgment that various groups humans are different from one another in various ways due to our different genotypes. Such differences include, but are not limited to, physical appearance, athletic ability, personality, and cognitive abilities.
As a society, we already put some aspects of this theory into practice. An example of this is your doctor asking you if any instances of cancer, heart disease, etc. run in your family. Another is the various studies, most notably those relating to autism spectrum disorders, conducted on the Amish people, who are by and large genetically isolated from their "English" neighbors.
Finally, I would reiterate that it is not at all racist to take note of, accept, or reasonably comment on these facts. As I've said earlier, to properly combat the problem, one must first understand it. Denouncing the messengers as racist because their conclusions are unpopular will accomplish nothing except perpetuate the problem at hand.
All of that might be true but your making a big extrapolation off of a limited amount of evidence.
Your also imagining that a black person can be totally isolated from factors which dis-proportionately effect black persons.
-Black kids are more likely to have black friends (this is racism but it's true, black children are more likely to accept black kids, white kids are more likely to avoid black kids). This makes it more likely that black children regardless of their family environment are going to be exposed to the negative aspects of black culture.
-Teacher's expectations are probably lower for black students (again racism but true). It has been shown time and time again that low expectations correlate with lower performance (just as high expectations correlate with higher performance).
There are many many more factors which would have to be considered before one could make the blanket statement that "black persons have a lower average intelligence).
Further even if this were proven to be true it would hardly matter a slightly average lower intelligence would have very little effect on individual's abilities to succeed.
Intelligence in my experience is a highly overrated quality, I consider my self significantly more intelligent than the average person (who doesn't ). But I'm also a little on the lazy side, I'm highly inclined to procrastinate and goof off instead of studying, so as a result people who I'm inclined to think of my self as "smarter" than, frequently do better than me on tests, because they have a better work ethic.
Innate intelligence is something which is more or less impossible to change, and something which I am inclined to believe is somewhat un-important.
Again I think our focus should be on identifying negative cultural trends within the black community and considering ways to curb those self destructive trends.

That would be a gigantic step backwards. Only being able to run Applications deemed worthy by Apple? It maybe fine for your very average PC user who writes email, iWorks, and browses internet - but anyone else - crippling.
I suppose they could have two flavours of the OS - the locked down version called "Th iOS desktop Disney Edition"! :)
... as a developer, I'd like to have an App Store I could put apps in and have Apple take care of the shipping/marketing/etc., just cut me a check once a month. They could be Mac apps rather than iPad apps. You could also run the iPad or iPhone apps using a variation on the iPhone Simulator that comes with the SDK.
Now, I do think there is a problem with the App Store as it currently exists: there is not enough organization, so that it's difficult to find the app you really want. But that's a separate issue, and I'm sure it will get fixed over time.

I doubt 10.7 will be such an overhaul. Probably more like Mac OS X 11.0 or a totally new naming scheme.
Mac OS X 11.0? Seriously?
You mean Mac OS XI?

4G can be significantly faster.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
So the advantage AT&T currently has over Verizon for Internet and Downloading speed will be taken away once 4G comes into play?

Heres my question..........Iphone4 is reaching maturity as the number sold has decreased each day as many await the iphone5. How will Apple compensate for revenue and profit in these 2 quarters???? Ipad2 isn't going to make up the difference. I wouldn't count the Iphone5 out yet in late June or July unless there is a part shortage from Japan.
Remember Apple is not the type of company that must put every feature into its upcoming product.

So, I guess that's when Apple will officially announce that leaked huge glass trackpad accessory then. Not sure why the iMac though, seems like it makes more sense to put iOS into the Macbook/MBA as an instant-on OS dual-booting with regular OS X.

Never had a classic myself, but I think for some people it works and depending on sales apple will decide if it is worth it or not to continue selling it.

In red is your problem. In marriage you're a unit; there is no "your" money or "my" money.. it's "our" money. If there are things more important to the unit than an iPad (I can think of many, many possibilities), then you're contorting the wife's stance unfairly.
And, just for the record, for the women/wife bashing that's happened in the thread I'd like to point out that it can go both ways. I'm a wife and we were standing in line on launch day for ME.. my husband would never have blessed the purchase if it came from joint funds. This is the beauty of separate "fun" accounts. An allowance per se for each of us, free from the negotiations that happen from joint accounts (and to anyone that argues that it's ridiculous that big purchases from joint money have to be discussed is going to be in for a rude awakening come marriage, IMO). More couples should have 'em.
Thank you! Applies to marriages of any gender, mixed or same. OUR money. A marriage is a team, and that's the only hope it has of lasting. If you don't intend for it to last, then there's no point in doing it in the first place.
The "wife" says no? For "wife" substitute "husband" or "partner"...still valid for one member of the marriage to vote "No". (Apple seems to have waged a successful campaign in the election.) :apple:

Store still down? Annoying or what?Yes very annoying! I'm trying to figure out the specs/prices for these. Btw, does anybody think the Apple would allow me to swap the MBs at Admore rather than going back to Christiana Mall in Delaware?

But wait! Doesn't Apple's miniscule market-share mean that hackers won't target Macs because there is nothing to be gained? Better off targeting the 95% of Windows-running machines out there? I think this story proves again that the "security through obscurity" argument is just a myth. :)
I wasn't disputing the fact that Apple doesn't have it's share of problems with security. Everyone is sick of hearing Windows problems so as soon as a problems arises with Apple, Linux, UNIX, etc everyone jumps on it.

Today's mythical creature isn't really mythical. The Gigantopithecus is an ancient form of the ape. There is speculation that it still exists and is the reason for yeti and Big Foot sightings. I guess that is the reason for including it in a mythical creatures display.

I don't see how adjusting the UI at the last minute could be any sort of OK. Do you really want developers using the Tiger finder for the next 7 months, and then all of the sudden Apple goes BAM (Emeril Style) and puts in a brand new finder.
I want those developers to be able to integrate the finder with their apps. If all Apple is doing is adjusting some colors or icons or something, then we shouldn't be excited about the new finder in the first place. But if Apple is going to do some major revamping, shame on them for keeping it a secret.
People need time to work with it and find all the kinks, especially if it is dramatically different from Tiger.
I understand your point. I do, however, feel that Apple has more of the platform's long-term best interests at heart, versus the developers delay of a UI for 5 months.
If we're to assume the "Top Secret to prevent photocopying" theory, then these next 5 months are more crucial to Apple's development than the platform developers. Come January, Apple might spill all the details of the (currently speculative) Finder, and developers have from then until release date to incorporate it. Sure, it's a delay of 5 months, but think big-picture. If Apple's secretiveness prevents Vista from incorporating Leopard UI traits, it's worth the wait to make Leopard appear further ahead.*
*We all know this is a rumor site, but the above is purely speculation on my part.

I still wonder where the Airport and Bluetooth antennas are.
They stick out from underneath the case. I'm pretty sure you can see that at some point during the Keynote speech (look for the blue "transmission circles" next to the Mac Pro -- the antenna is at the center of the circles).

Just read an article that says black men in London commit more than half of street crimes and gun crimes. They make up only 12% of londons population. These statistics are even higher than in the US and they can't blame slavery and Jim crow laws in London like they love to do here. What is the possible reasoning behind this? Very interesting.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/7856404/Police-statistics-shed-fresh-light-on-link-between-crime-and-race.html
The main thing, sadly, is the lack of positive male role models (most gun crime is committed by black men, so Aunt Jemima wouldn't be suitable for them, not sure about Uncle Ben).
I think it's mainly the fact that they want to emulate the glamour that they see in music videos by their only available role models, and materialists aren't the best role models.
Goodluck Johnathan would be a great role model but I doubt most white people in the UK have ever heard of him, never mind the black people...

My girlfriend is having a field-day. Being a Dell fan-girl, I was like nyahhhh your laptop's gonna explode.
Gotta watch out where you apply that schadenfreude. It often comes back to bite you in the end!
That's exactly how I felt when I first heard about Dell's big safety recall, knowing it was a matter of time before Apple followed suit because of their own extensive use of Sony batteries.
My girlfriend is also a Windows user, but she's no fan-girl. She says her ThinkPad T43 will be her last PC. :)

Nice update except for the videocard and maybe the price. It's good that it arrives now for the people who were waiting for the update.
