The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps -- instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of "Obama Bucks" -- a phony $10 bill featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body, labeled "United States Food Stamps."Just to explain my posting of these kinds of pictures and videos of some of the kinds of people that attend the McCain/Palin rallies, it's necessary to reflect America as it presently constitutes itself in order to make it better. I'm not trying to evoke 'white guilt' in any purposeful way. I'm trying to hold a mirror to America so that it can see itself and how it acts so that it might not continue to act like a prolbem doesn't exist when it clearly does. This kind of thing happens far too often and it's unacceptable.
150 years ago in the lead up to the Civil War the biggest debate was actually about whether black people were human beings or animals. You see, that's the only way they had to justify the kind of treatment they placed upon African-Americans. If you were a Christian and you saw them as animals then slavery was okay. Rape was okay. Beatings were permissible as pets need to learn from their masters in lessons of submission and docility. These were the kinds of things you couldn't get away with in the eyes of the Almighty if it were thought you were doing them to men and women.
Now if you think Blacks aren't human then this kind of open stereotyping and racism is fine. Ambivolence toward people who don't look like you or come where you come from or general apathy toward children who've done nothing but been born to poor parents who never even have a chance often times at a decent education let alone a good job is fine too. But I don't believe in my heart it has to be like that and I trust that a good portion of people agree with me and wish to support measures to help people that may not look like them or share the same story because they are human and they see flesh and blood, the same as their own, when they see them. A good amount of people don't share in bigotry and prejudice and do all that they can to point it out and fight against it because they know when good people stay silent about a wrong they might as well be agreeing with the wrong being done.
You see something you don't like, speak up.
