ESPN's Sportcenter To Be On Even More Often

ESPN will soon go live with "SportsCenter" weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it couldn't come at a better time, according to a top executive.

Norby Williamson, ESPN's executive vice president of production, said yesterday that adding the live programing gives the network an "opportunity to be on the news and drive the news for sports fans."

The change takes effect Aug. 11 with Hannah Storm and Josh Elliott anchoring from 9 until noon. (Storm will be replaced on Fridays because of her NFL duties.) From noon to 3, Chris McKendry and Robert Flores will handle the anchor jobs.

Williamson said a day like yesterday, which had a lot of sports news popping (such as Cincinnati Reds star Ken Griffey Jr. agreeing to be traded to the Chicago White Sox) was one reason it'll be good to be live during the day.

"The decision couldn't come at a more opportune time," he said. "As we go through this, it just validates where we've been going."
